Vocal Faculty and Co-Founder
Mana Dhanraj is a jazz vocals teacher at Mela and also the
co-founder of Mela music academy.
Mana is the current lead singer of Mana & Co. and Jazz Band Tea for Two, a versatile vocalist who is equally comfortable singing jazz, RnB and rock. In 2014, she formed an experimental funk and neo soul band, ‘Chandbibi and the Waste Candidates’. Their debut album, ‘Tidy Funk’, was recorded in October 2014, following which they toured across India. She graduated from the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in India for a formal training Jazz in 2015. During her formal training, she had the opportunity to work on a fusion piece for the Neumann product launch in Chennai, and also collaborated with Fulbright Scholar Alex Pinto on his musical project: “The All India Permit”, which sought to fuse Carnatic with Jazz. She was mentored by renowned international artists, including Raphaelle Brochet, Natalie John, Magos Herrera, Tom Brislin, Karina Colis, Carolina and Steve Zerlin. Her most recent endeavour is developing an innovative new syllabus involving teaching Western classical music to first-time learners.
